Baby Shower Gifts New Parents Will Actually Love

In the spirit of taking care of the needs of the mother or the expecting parent, let’s talk about baby showers.  Yes, we’re all excited that a new baby will be here and baby clothes are adorable.  But before you buy the 15th onesie or burp cloth, consider what your friend’s needs might be once the baby is here.  As you know if you’re already a parent, your friend is going to have some NEEDS and those needs are unlikely to be met without a lot of help.

What are your friend’s needs going to be?  Sleep, time alone, and convenience.  So, we’ve come up with a list of the best things to get an expecting parent.

  • A gift certificate for a massage.  You know how you don’t make time for yourself until someone’s already paid for the gift and then you have to?  Well, getting this gift might force your friend out of the house for some relaxing, restful, rejuvenating alone time.  Wow, we’re feeling the stress melting away from the new parents just thinking about it.

  • A new pillow.  Is your friend complaining now about not getting comfortable sleep?  While pregnancy can exacerbate things, a great, new pillow can only help things now and once the baby’s here and sleep is a precious commodity.

  • Recovery kit.  Excedrin, heating pads, vaginal ice packs, Unisom, Depends, witch hazel pads. All the essentials for the end of pregnancy and right after childbirth. Your friend will not ask for these…but they will be used and much appreciated!

  • Meals delivered.  Babies are sweet, cute, and, most of all, incredibly tiring.  What energy any parent has, we like to devote to bonding with this new baby of ours.  So in the first few months, making or even thinking about what’s for dinner is usually a low priority.  Find a place that has easy, freshly prepared meals that you can have delivered to your friend once the baby is born.  Most cities and even big towns have chefs who create meals weekly and deliver. If you can’t find that, there’s always a GrubHub or UberEats certificate.

That’s Boogie Wipes, baby poop bags (just like dog poop bags but for babies), wipes, nipple covers, the list goes on…
